Gentle chiropractic in Lismore

If you'd like a gentler approach to chiropractic, this page is for you. Most of our care uses quite light, brief contacts, with an emphasis on working with your nervous system to unwind years of retained stress and stored tension.

You might be sore, sensitive or nervous, or caring for a baby, or you may simply prefer to take things gently.

What do we mean by gentle?

Gentle here means light, brief contacts: about the pressure you'd use to check whether an avocado is ripe. It doesn't mean less. Each contact is specific, and we pay close attention to how your body responds along the way. Our main approach is Spinal Somatics, a gentle, precise approach to chiropractic that works with the tension your nervous system is holding.

We think of it as sensory input rather than physical force. Your nervous system receives the input and responds by letting go of tension it has been holding, sometimes for years. Because the change comes from your own body, we find it tends to last and build over time.

Who gentle chiropractic suits

  • People who feel apprehensive about having force applied to their body

  • People who are sore, sensitive or in a lot of pain, including those with disc injuries

  • Babies, children and teens

  • Mums during pregnancy and postpartum

  • Older adults

  • People under long-term stress, whose bodies are already working hard

  • Anyone who simply prefers a gentler way of doing things

What happens in a visit

You stay fully clothed and mostly lie face down and relax, with some of the session done sitting up. It's common to feel your body soften and unwind, notice warmth or tingling, and feel your breathing slow or deepen. Some people don't feel much, and that's okay too.

Questions people ask

Does it hurt? No. Our contacts are quite light and brief, and most people find the session relaxing. If anything is uncomfortable, tell us and we'll adjust.

Will you use more forceful adjustments? Some people prefer stronger manual adjustments, and for those people we're happy to provide that care. Most people who see us love the results they get with the gentler work, and we don't use any manual adjustments with them. If we think a particular technique is indicated in your care, we'll discuss it with you, and you get to choose.
